Soundwalk Through Todmorden’s Heritage

The ‘Soundwalk Through Todmorden’s Heritage’ is a project by Todmorden Town Council designed to build upon (and ultimately replace) the concept of creating a timeline of Todmorden’s heritage.

The Soundwalk was developed alongside a group of students from Todmorden High School. Through multiple design and interview sessions, the Soundwalk was created, allowing people to listen to memories and stories of Todmorden as they walk around Centre Vale Park.

The students chose the topics, designed the questions and interviewed local people. The interviewees range from 12-82, so there’s a real mixture of stories in the Soundwalk that will surely bring back memories for a lot of people.

The stories have been formed into a narrative, with audio placed around Centre Vale Park. They can be listened to through the Echoes app, which automatically plays as you walk into the spaces.

Thank you to all the young people involved in the project, including Asli who designed the poster and Harry who created the brilliant illustrations for the flier, and to all the intervieweees who gave up their time to share their stories!

This project has been made possible throught Town Deal funding along with grant funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Todmorden Bandstand renovations – so a huge thank you to National Lottery Players!
